Full Marks for Pensions Scheme
The TDP-led coalition government, which came to power six months ago with a massive majority, has been diligently working on fulfilling its pre-election promises. Despite delaying some initiatives due to financial constraints, it has successfully implemented key schemes, earning public appreciation. One such standout initiative is the increase in pensions.CM Chandrababu Naidu had promised to enhance pensions if elected, and he kept his word. By increasing pensions by ₹1,000 at once, he won the hearts of senior citizens. Under the previous Jagan-led government, it took nearly five years to increase old-age pensions from ₹2,000 to ₹3,000. Back then, Jagan had promised a direct increase but implemented it gradually by raising ₹250 annually, leaving many pensioners dissatisfied. They expressed their disappointment during the recent elections, accusing the previous government of breaking its promises.
Efficient Implementation Under Chandrababu’s Leadership Chandrababu's government ensured pensions were distributed on the 1st of every month without fail. If the 1st fell on a Sunday, pensions were distributed the previous day, spreading smiles among pensioners. Unlike the earlier system where missing a month's pension meant forfeiture, the new system allows beneficiaries to claim missed pensions in subsequent months. This approach has created immense satisfaction among pensioners, including the elderly, disabled, and those with chronic illnesses. Many women have even referred to Chandrababu as their "son," expressing heartfelt gratitude. In a recent visit to a remote village in Palnadu district, an elderly woman shared her joy, saying that the pension helped her live comfortably and gave her hope for the future.
Transformational Impact
The government's assistance has been particularly impactful for widows and disabled individuals, providing them with financial and emotional stability. While there may be shortcomings in other areas, Chandrababu's administration has earned full marks for its pension scheme, ensuring dignity and financial security for countless citizens.
